What is Participatory Budgeting (PB)?

A Participatory Budget is a budgeting process where the citizens actively participate in making decisions regarding public funding. Advertised as an anti-poverty measure, this kind of initiative predominantly happens at a very specific area where a community is provided with funds to support specific projects. Exceptionally, it could also occur at a national level to rebuild trust in a government, for example. However, in this guide, we will only focus on local budgeting practices as the ideal way for citizens to democratically decide the destination of money focused on the construction of more houses, schools and other community improvements.
