Initially serving its original neighbourhood only and then expanded to include North Madison, the Flatiron NoMad Business Improvement District (BID) in New York City shows how a BID can flourish in 16 years.
Apart from district beautification and streetscape maintenance, this BID serves the public and businesses by employing its own public safety officers as well as collaborating with nonprofits, such as Urban Pathways, to engage with and tend to the needs of the homeless.
