A BIA is a special taxing or municipal improvement district. BIAs are created using specific geographical boundaries and can also be known as Business Revitalization Zones and Business Improvement Districts.
BIAs are neighbourhood-based organizations created to improve local business environments. Improvements include streetscape beautification, enhancing pedestrian safety, festivals, and concerts. BIAs work collaboratively with municipalities to improve the neighbourhood including short-term parking, marketing campaigns, and public transit to attract customers.
