A Community Land Trust (or CLT) is a non-profit corporation made up of various stakeholders – such as community organizations or financial institutions. A CLT can hold, redevelop, or acquire land for a variety of purposes, usually to serve the needs of the community in some form.
According to The Center for Community Land Trust Innovation, in a CLT, a non-profit corporation holds the title to the land where the buildings may be sold to individuals or other non-profit organizations. Historically, the CLT framework has been used for a wide variety of land uses from community centres to housing cooperatives.
