Climate Change, Energy & Pollution Parks & Public SpaceSummary
The 2.15 acres Anna C. Verna Playground in Philadelphia is expected to open in the summer of 2023. It is the second project in the greater FDR Park Plan that proposes to include a dozen multipurpose sports fields, 10 miles of trails, and sustainable stormwater management. A key attraction of this playground is the Skyline Swing, which is touted as the largest swing set in North America and can seat 20 people. It also includes slides, tree houses, log and boulder scrambles, nine picnic sites, and a picnic pavilion. Notably named after the first female president of the Philadelphia City Council, this park is designed with a water-permeable cork surface to enhance its resilience against flooding.
